Culture - First Saturday Outing

Our first Saturday outing! We love exploring new places and where we live. Much of what is here is not as old as places in Europe because the neighboring countries have destroyed a lot. The Lao people have still kept their culture and are working on restoring older structures. There are many beautiful buildings here, but most beautiful are the people. They are not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well; they are kind and loving and we love them very much.

This particular Saturday we went with the Bairds, the other senior couple here in Vientiane. We went to a large shopping mall, Wat Sisaket (a beautiful Buddhist temple that was not destroyed because the then current Thai king studied there, so he did not want to ruin it), and the Patuxay Monument, or Victory Monument (very much like l'arc de triomphe in Paris, except it has Asian art decorating it). This time we chose to see the Patuxay Monument in the evening as there is a water and light show after dark.

Saturday's culture outing: Local shopping, Patuxay Monument, and Wat Sisaket.

We have a free day each weekend to enjoy and experience the Lao culture and people. They never disappoint! They have such a great culture and country!

It is the city's main memorial commemorating
Laotian soldiers who died in WW2.

Its ceiling is based on India's Taj Mahal and the monument is bordered by two musical fountains.

Lovely lady in front of the monument.
